By Rail:

York is a major rail centre; London to York is one of Britain's fastest rail routes.

Fastest journey times:

London, King's Cross (1hr 46m); Edinburgh (2hr 24m); Manchester (1hr 29m); Newcastle (52m); and Birmingham (2hr 8m).

People travelling to Bootham by rail will arrive at the main York station. From the station it will take approximately 10 minutes to walk or 10 minutes by taxi.

By Bus:

York is served by excellent public transport, including ‘Park&Ride', click here for current routes and other information

By Car:

York is connected to the national motorway network via the A64 and A1. Major cities are within easy travelling distance: London (3hr 30m), Edinburgh (3hr 30m), Birmingham (2hr 30m), Manchester (1hr 30m), Leeds (40m).

Approach Bootham from the north on the A19 via the outer ring road following signs for the City Centre. Turn left on to the inner ring road (Gillygate) and take the first road on the left (Portland Street). This leads into the main school grounds. Parking at Bootham School is limited to a few visitor spaces which need to be booked in advance when you are making an appointment. Please set your Satnav to Portland Street (or Post code YO31 7EH) to arrive at our vehicle entrance. Alternatively, there are three nearby public car parks, which usually have spaces, at Bootham Row, Union Terrace and Marygate  www.york.gov.uk/transport/Parking/Car_parks/

By Air:

Three international airports: Leeds/Bradford (40m), Newcastle (1hr 30m) and Manchester (2hr direct by train to the centre of the airport) are within easy reach. London Heathrow is only 3 hours from York using Underground and rail links.
